Hungry in a petrol station

By on September 2, 2014

Had the displeasure of being in this situation yesterday. Was on the way home from Drogheda and had to head straight to the gym to train a PT client. I was caught completely on the hop with no food with me. The stomach was rumbling like a washing machine, so I stopped in to pick up something to keep me going. Ended up doing circles around the shop trying to find something that hadn’t got a tonne of sugar added to it. It was a serious effort to find the tiny fruit basket down the bottom of the shop – Problem was it was all mouldy. I ended up picking up a coffee & a gluten free flapjack. ‘ Not ideal but it was the best option available.

Next time you’re getting your petrol, have a look around the shop. It’s no wonder we’re facing such a big obesity problem, The amount of junk out there is ridiculous and it’s being shoved into our faces every shop we go to. BUT, I suppose the big take home point is that when you’re out and about, it’s almost impossible to eat well all of the time. Don’t stress. You have to just accept it & make the best choice you have available to you. The trick is that you don’t fall into the trap of writing off the rest of the day just because you had some bad food. We’re all guilty of it, “I’ll get back on it tomorrow”. The best way to get over a bad meal is to eat well at your next one (that same day). Try avoid the all or nothing attitude we Irish are so good at (e.g. on the dry vs on the rip). And just try your best with every meal.

The worst thing you can do is stress about it. If you want to know more about stress & how it makes us fat.
